RICElink & Interview FAQs
I just want to post a job! Why are there different sections in RICElink?
Each tab on your homepage indicates a module. For example, one tab is called “OCR: On-campus Recruiting” while another is called “Jobs.” OCR assumes you have identified an interview date and plan to utilize RICElink to manage your interview schedule(s). The “Jobs” section is better suited for ongoing interviews, resume collects, and/or if you are managing your interviews outside of RICElink.
We can easily promote your Job posting to an OCR posting (and vice versa). So if you’re not sure if you want to come to campus, or don’t have a fixed interview date in mind, you can go ahead and post a job, collect resumes and decide later to manage an interview schedule.
I posted a job but didn’t get many (or any) applicants.
At any given time, there are over 1,000 job postings active in RICElink. Does yours stand out? Contact us. We will review your posting to make sure all of the data fields were filled out accurately and with enough detail to catch a student’s interest. We can help you market the job to increase student awareness of your opportunity.
Be sure not to exclude students by requiring certain majors that Rice may not offer. Rice students want to be challenged so if mundane tasks highlight the opportunity, they may not apply. Students are also prevented to apply to a position if their information does not match the GPA or work authorization criteria you select.
I can’t find the job I posted.
We will not randomly remove approved postings from RICElink.
Job postings have expiration dates (that you initially designate in the job description). If your expiration date passed and you want to keep your job posting active on RICElink, contact us. We will repost the opportunity for you.
How do I access Resume Books?
When you registered for an account in RICElink, you were able to select the services you were interested in utilizing within the database. If you did not check “Resume Books,” the tab will not be visible to you. Contact us to gain access to the books.
There are five Resume Books available. However, students do not necessarily “Opt-out” when they accept a job or internship. So it’s possible that a student you contact will have already made internship or employment plans.
Why did RICElink let me submit a request for rooms in Huff House and then a CCD staff member told me the rooms aren’t actually available?
We apologize for the inconvenience – it’s a bit complicated. We have four traditional interview rooms in the Huff House. If you request a date where those rooms are already booked, we will try to accommodate your request in conference rooms in the Huff House or elsewhere on campus. If we only allow for four rooms in RICElink, we cannot add the conference (or other) rooms to your schedule. Thus there are more than four rooms indicated in RICElink.
What are Off-Campus rooms? I thought I was in the OCR module.
Selecting the “Off-campus” location in the OCR module allows you to manage your interview schedules (collecting resumes, inviting candidates and allowing candidates to select interview times) in RICElink but conduct interviews in your offices. While visibility on campus is lost, some employers prefer this route as it potentially saves time and money (for the employer) and allows students to experience the culture of a work environment first hand. Given our space constraints at times, this becomes a more viable option.
Do I request rooms in the Huff House or the Jones School of Business?
If you are recruiting undergraduate and/or non-MBA graduate students, select Huff House. If you plan to interview MBA candidates as well as undergraduate and non-MBA graduate students, let us know. We will work with the Career Management Center in the Jones School of Business to streamline your recruiting day.
How do I create an OCR schedule?
From your homepage in RICElink, click “Set up On-Campus Interviews” and fill out the information as prompted.
I only need a room for the afternoon or morning. Can I consolidate my schedule?
Yes. You have the option of selecting morning, afternoon or full-day interview schedules. If this is a last minute change, we will work with you to figure out the best way to edit your schedule parameters.
The deadline dates for my OCR schedule don’t work for me. What should I do?
While you cannot change the deadline dates yourselves, you can ask one of our staff to do so. Remember, each deadline falls directly after the other – so if you change one, you will likely need to change all. We streamlined the deadline timelines this year to allow an equal number of days between deadlines based on the week your interview date falls.
In order to print schedules for your interview day, your schedule must close at least two days prior to your interview date.
What do all of these deadlines mean anyway?
Please note that the deadline times always end at 11:59 p.m. and start at 12:01 a.m.
Resume Submission End - This date signifies the last date (and time) a student can upload their resume for your review. After this time ends, they will be unable to apply to your position(s) in RICElink.
Employer Select Start - The Employer Select Start time allows you to access the applicants’ resumes and invite them to sign up for an interview.
How do I invite students to interview?
Once your Employer Select Start date begins, you will see a drop box to the right of the candidates’ names. Select “Invite” for those you would like to interview. There is no “save” button but, rest assured, your selection is auto-saved when you leave the page. When your Employer Select End date expires, you will no longer have access to the drop box.
RICElink will notify your students that they are invited to sign up for an interview. Please note that students will be notified when you change their status, so if you change your mind prior to the Employer Select End deadline, they will know they were initially invited to interview.
Employer Select End* - This is the most important deadline to pay attention to for a couple of reasons.
1) The Employer Select End time means you must pick your preferred candidates and change their status to “Invited” in the system. If you don’t plan to invite a candidate, leave their status to “Not Invited.” After this deadline expires, you will no longer be able to change the status of candidates, nor invite other candidates to sign up. We can reopen your end date upon request. If you re-open your Employer Select End deadline after it initially passes, and you invite additional candidates to interview, RICElink will not notify new invitees. You will need to contact them to let them know they have been invited to interview and can sign up for an interview time.
2) Contact our staff BEFORE this deadline expires to change the time parameters on your interview schedule. For example, if you plan to interview students from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. for 60 minutes each, plus a lunch break, you will have available eight interview time slots. If you invite six students to interview, then you will have two empty time slots. It is difficult to consolidate your schedule after this deadline passes and the Pre-select Signup Starts. You may have to reach out to the students directly to rearrange your schedule.
Pre-select Signup Start - Preselects can start signing up for their preferred interview time.
Schedule Close – Your interview schedule closes and students can no longer sign up for interviews. We print your schedules after this deadline passes.
What’s the difference between the OCR Models?
All of these are models by which you can schedule your on (or off) campus interviews. Here’s the breakdown:
Room Reservation Only – Reserve a room but don’t collect resumes or manage interview schedules. This model is typically used when an employer needs a room for a second round of interviews.
Preselect – You select the candidates you wish to interview and utilize the deadline dates previously discussed.
Preselect to Alternate – This model allows Alternate candidates (additionally selected by you when you invite “Preselects”) to sign up. On occasion, your pre-selected candidates may “Decline” to interview with you. Be judicial with your Alternate selections. Alternates can start signing up on a certain date REGARDLESS of whether or not your Pre-selects have signed up yet. In other words, your alternates can take the interview time slots of your Pre-selects if your Pre-selects are slow to sign up.
Open – This model allows anyone to sign up for an interview. You do not screen the candidates; rather they log in and select a time on your schedule.
Resume Collect – You may collect resumes in the OCR model if you plan to create and manage an interview schedule (on or off campus) during the semester. At times, there is a benefit to placing your job or internship posting in the OCR module (opposed to the “Jobs” module).
I’m interviewing on campus tomorrow, can I get an interview packet?
Yes. We will print your packets for you and have them waiting in your interview rooms.
Why are there so many steps to filling out a profile?
A great way to stand out from the other employers in RICElink is to fill out your employer profile. There are several tabs and new fields in the profile that will help educate students about your company as well as enhance awareness of your brand.
Something came up and I need to cancel OCR. Can I still keep the job posted?
Yes. We can move your position for you to the “Jobs” module. You will just need to let us know your preferred expiration date and how you would like to receive notice of applicants (i.e. – email, accumulate online, or notify via email when expiration date passes). In order to maintain a good reputation on campus, it’s best to reach out to your candidates to let them know you will no longer be coming to campus.
I selected 30-minute interviews but really ours are two 30-minute back-to-back interviews in two separate rooms. Can you block the rooms in the 2nd room so no one signs up?
If you conduct back-to-back interviews, we can help streamline the process for you. Just answer, “yes” to the question about back-to-back interviews in your interview request form and we’ll be in touch with you.
