The Recruiting Process

 When does recruiting happen?
"On-campus recruiting" refers to all recruiters' activities on campus during the academic year. Our recruiting calendar (when information sessions and interviews are held) runs from the second week of school to the week of Thanksgiving (fall) and the week before the spring semester ends (spring). There is no recruiting on school holidays. Please note employers can hold other events on campus outside of these times, but to give the most students fair access, the CCD adheres to this schedule. The busiest times are the beginnings of each semester. Be ready to jump in when you arrive on campus!

Employers definitely post in RICElink and iNet throughout the calendar year, so keep researching both during the summer. Also, we continuously post opportunities on Facebook.

What employers are interviewing on campus?
View the list here. You can also find this information in the Jobs tab of RICElink. The first drop-down menu option says “Show Me.” Select “All Interviews” from that menu. Click on a job title to view the resume submission deadline and date of the interview.

Check out our Events Calendar!

What employers are coming to the Career Expo?
View the list here.

What should I wear to information sessions and/or my interviews?
Info sessions and interviews are opportunities to dress professionally and make a great impression. The company representatives will most likely be dressed in business casual or business formal attire, and it will likely make you feel most comfortable to do the same. However, it is possible that the employer may specify casual dress as appropriate.

Why do only certain industries come to campus to recruit?
Recruiting takes time and money. The organizations that choose to come to campus to recruit are also those that can forecast their hiring needs. However, this doesn’t mean that these are the only employers interested in Rice students.

Our office exists to help students with their job search, which includes professional communication as well as exploring your path after Rice (both graduate school and employment). Explore our Career Development and Professional Communication & Employment Research pages for more information.

Are there any interviewing policies I must follow?
Yes, all students participating in on-campus recruiting must abide by our policies.

I'm trying to find contact information for a certain employer.
First, look in RICElink under the Jobs tab. Click on a job posting, and search that page to see if a contact is listed. If not, go to the Employers tab and search there. Second, search the Jobs and Employers tabs in iNet. If you are unable to locate a name, email us at ccd@rice.edu for additional options.

iNet

 My log-in is not working.
Once you complete the registration here, your account will be pending until our office approves it. You will be unable to log in while your account is pending. Approvals are completed within one business day of your registration. Please let us know if you are still experiencing difficulties.

I forgot my email user name or password.
To retrieve your email user name, please contact us and we will look up your account. Remember, it should be one of your Rice email addresses. To obtain a new password, click “Forgot Password” under the “Log In” section on this page.

I’m interested in a certain employer, but I don’t see any postings from them.
The Employers tab contains employer profiles and contact information separate from the active job listings under the Jobs tab. Search this tab to find contacts you may get in touch with to professionally express your interest in their organization, and to inquire about any unlisted opportunities there. Take advantage of our confidential career counseling program and our instructional sessions, to help you learn more about communicating professionally with potential employers and finding opportunities through research outside of job boards.

RICElink

 My log-in is not working.
Your log-in is always your Rice NetID and NetID password, even if you change your email address in the contact information in your Profile. Also, make sure you’re logging in from this page, so that the NetID authentication works correctly. Please contact us if you continue to experience difficulties.

Where can I update my personal and academic information?
Click the Profile tab at the top left of your RICElink home page. Go through each of the tabs (Personal, Academic, and Privacy) to edit your information. Be sure to hit the Save Changes button after you revise each page.

Can I select more than one option for each field in my Profile?
Yes, hold down the Command key (Mac) or Control key (PC) and then click each choice.

Why does it tell me ..“The drop period for this position has not yet started. The drop period start date is posted below.”?
Resume submission has not opened. Check the date posted - you will be able to submit your resume beginning on that date. Be sure to also note the resume submission end date.

Why does it tell me ..“Your GPA does not fall within the desired range for this position.”?
The employer has selected requirements that applicants must meet in order to submit their resume. Double-check that all the information under your Profile tab is correct. If it is correct and you still want to apply, compose a professional email to express your interest in their organization, state your qualifications, and inquire as to whether you may still apply. You can find employers’ contact information either in the posting, under the Employers tab, or within the on-campus interviewing master list.

Why does it tell me ..“Your Graduation Date does not fall within the desired range for this position.”?
See the answer to the question above.

Why does it tell me ..“You do not match the desired Work Authorization for this position.”?
See the answer to the question above.

I’m interested in a certain employer, but I don’t see any postings from them.
See the answer to the same question in the iNet section above.

I want to apply to a posting that requires an unofficial transcript. How do I get one?
You can pull up your unofficial transcript in Esther, and then print the page to a PDF. Upload the PDF under the Documents tab. If you don't have the "Print to PDF" option in your Print menu, download this free software to help you.

Where can I check to see if I’ve been invited to any interviews?
Though RICElink should always send you an invitation via email (from the CCD email address), it’s a good practice to double-check. Go to the Interviews tab, and then click on the Interview Requests tab. You will see any invitations here. If invited to interview, this is also where you will choose your time slot. The Scheduled Interviews tab, immediately to the left, will show you the interviews for which you’ve already signed up.

I accidentally declined an interview. What can I do to sign up?
Students are unable to use the system to sign up after they have declined the interview. Contact us - we will override the decline and add your name to the schedule in one of the available time slots.

I want to change my interview time.
Go to the Interviews tab, then Scheduled Interviews. Go to the row listing your interview, and in the right hand column, hit Reschedule.
