Host an Information Session and/or Coffee Chats

Information sessions are a great way to promote your company’s opportunities and interact with potential candidates before your interviews. These sessions allow students to get to know your organization beyond the job description. You may also create a specialized session unique to your organization (i.e., alumni panel, interview preparation, simulation, competition, industry-specific panel or presentation).

To request an Information Session, log in to Handshake and select the ‘Create an Event’ button in the center of your screen on the right.  

If you are interested in meeting with students one-on-one or in small groups, consider hosting Coffee Chats in addition to or in lieu of an information session.  There are two types of Coffee Chats you can host: (1) students who meet your criteria sign up in advance for a specific time slot on a first-come, first served basis, or (2) students stop by at their convenience during the designated time frame without signing up for a specific slot in advance.  Coffee Chats can be held at Huff House or Brochstein Pavilion.  Space at Brochstein cannot be reserved in advance, while space at Huff House is reserved on a first-come, first-served basis.

To request Coffee Chats, log in to Handshake and select the ‘Create an Event’ button in the center of your screen on the right.  If you would like students to sign up for slots in advance, after submitting your event request, please email Leora Gabry Semble with the following information so she can create a schedule for students to sign up: location (Huff House or Brochstein), slot length (15 min, 30 min, etc.), number of students per time slot, GPA requirement (if you have one), class year(s) (freshman, sophomores, masters, etc.), whether you will sponsor a work visa for the right candidate, and whether you will hire those who are OPT/CPT eligible.     

Registration for Fall 2018 will open in Handshake on April 2, 2018 at 12:00 noon CT.

 *Unless otherwise noted, sessions are held in Huff House, Room 107 (accommodates 70), Monday through Thursday at 4:00  5:00 p.m., 5:30  6:30 p.m., and 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. We offer an additional 8:30 - 9:30 p.m. slot during peak times.
All rooms are available on a first come, first serve basis.

INFORMATION SESSION and COFFEE CHATS FEE


Information Sessions are $200. If you are a non-profit or government organization, the fee is $100. 
Your registration fee includes a CCD representative on-site to help you with set-up, inclusion on the CCD calendar (and in other marketing efforts), use of projector, screen, and audio. LAPTOP IS NOT PROVIDED.

There is no fee to host Coffee Chats.

Cater Your Event
Catering is optional and coordination is the sole responsibility of the employer. Please note, we are unable to place your catering order for you. When placing your catering order, instruct the delivery driver to deliver to Huff House, Room 107. Please note that if your Information Session is held outside of Huff House, food and drinks are not allowed in classrooms.

Advertise Your Information Session
We are happy to help you market your Information Session to Rice students. Your session will be posted to students through Handshake and on our events calendarHandshake is the best place for sharing your event and job/internship information with Rice students and alumni. Email us your flyers if you would like them shared through social media; we find that the most successful advertisements contain pictures/graphics and short phrases rather than heavy text. You might also consider advertising in the student newspaper, The Rice Thresher
