Mission Statement

The Center for Career Development believes ALL Rice students are capable of achieving their professional goals.

Our Mission is to support this by:

         Educating students on knowledge of self, career options, and resources;

         Connecting students with opportunities through the global Rice network;

         Empowering students with the confidence, skills and tools to achieve lifelong career fulfillment.          

 

Five critical opportunities– or Strategic Goals – have been identified as essential to our achieving our Vision. The Five Critical Opportunities are:

Outreach: Increase student reach and early access - Increase reach and access to all students, starting in freshman year, to engage students early in the career exploration and professional development process.     

Customization: Develop tailored programming and resources - Provide targeted and customizable programs and resources, using innovative and accessible service delivery, to address the professional development needs of Rice’s diverse population of students (including majors, undergraduates, graduate students, international students, diversity students and first-generation students).

Culture Shift: Collaborate and centralize career services - Create a campus culture of career readiness, and simplify and centralize efforts so the CCD is the "go-to" resource for career consulting and outcomes.

Strategic Partnerships: Build experiential education and career opportunities - Build strategic partnerships with employers, alumni, parents and the community at large to establish and improve connections and ultimately create career and experiential education opportunities that will benefit students' professional outcomes.

Smart Operating Practices: Utilize metric driven decision making - Improve and streamline internal efficiencies to improve customer service and response times to external constituents, and ease transitions and onboarding of new CCD staff.
